New Clubhouse Unveiled

Bletchley's remodelled clubhouse begins to emerge from behind the scaffolding which has covered it all summer. With only two months to completion the new building will offer a whole new experience for members and visitors.

Bletchley scoop the city...
New finance deal truly means sport for all....a full season’s senior rugby £25 Bletchley Rugby Club Ltd today announce a three year sponsorship deal with local businessman, Peter Webster, to provide finance enabling playing costs to be slashed for senior players and ladies. Club supporter and past Club Captain Peter Webster and Bletchley Rugby Club have hammered out an agreement that enables the Club to slash the cost of senior rugby.
Club Treasurer David Parker said...
“... traditionally clubs charge a membership fee and a regular match fee to players at all levels. Other local clubs have to charge up to £75 per year for membership and up to £10 per week to play. In these difficult times this can be a real problem for some players discouraging them from playing. This new partnership with Peter has enabled us to cut the cost of rugby at Bletchley to all senior players over 18 years and lady players to a single payment of £25”
Bletchley are Milton Keynes' most successful club playing in the South West Division 2 (level 6) (where many clubs employ semi professional players). Based at Manor Fields the Club remains staunchly amateur and recruits players from a thriving junior section and from the local community. Established for over 60 years the Club welcomes players of all standards and has established links with the professional game for those with the skills to and ability to play at higher levels. In the past Club players have represented both Northampton and Bedford.
Talking about the deal Peter Webster said...
“... I think this is in keeping with the ethos of Bletchley, as a local club we do not wish to pay players and we should treat all members as equals where possible. We know of clubs who have shot up the leagues on the back of expensive semi-pro players only to find the funding disappear and a demoralised club drop down below where they started. We see this as a cost effective way to help build and strengthen the Club that will help stimulate other initiatives. The benefits of what is proposed are far greater than spending the same amount on a few “star” players it should bring in new blood and retain fringe and less well off players. “
The Club are currently redeveloping their Manor Fields home to provide state of the art changing facilities designed to meet the RFU specification and a modern and enlarged kitchen facility at a cost of £250,000. Work has been underway since April and once completed will offer unrivalled facilities for players and spectators alike. John Phillips Funding Coordinator said...
“...One of our objectives of this development was to ensure that the cost of the project would not fall unduly on the membership nor leave the Club in serious debt. Key to this has been the need to gain external funding. The Club raised over £200,000 from sources such as RFU, MK Council, Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council, WREN / Waste Recycling Group and the National Hockey Foundation the remainder coming from individual donations and the clubs own resources. Work is scheduled for completion in October and when completed will leave the Club debt free and with a facility to match any in the area.”
Peter Garrett Club Coach and former Bedford Blues player said...
“…this is a major event for the Club and its players. Together with our new facilities we see this as a way of attracting a wide range of people capable of playing in any of the Club’s four regular teams and not just regular first team players who often receive incentives. We hope to get more players, more competition for places and build on our current level of play.”
Chris Goodman Club Chairman commented that...
“…This has been an objective of the Club for some years and we are delighted to be working with Peter to ensure that anyone that wishes to play rugby can. We are aware of many players who are experiencing financial problems and as a Club we do all that we can to help. This initiative ensures that anyone that would like to play at any level is not precluded from taking part purely because of finance. We think that it fits exactly with our commitment to the area, rugby in general and to our status as a Community Amateur Sports Club.”
(The Club has a 40 year lease on the 20 acre Manor Fields site that provides four full sized rugby pitches, 2 fully floodlit, and two cricket squares used by Bletchley Town Cricket Club. The Club regularly field four adult men’s teams a ladies side and has over 200 mini’s and juniors who play regularly from the age of 6.)
